Here’s my honest confession about my fall 2024 anime must-watch list – I only watch one new anime this season.
The rest of them are the anime that continues from the previous seasons.
With me only watching one new anime this season, does it mean the rest of the latest anime for this season is a total dud?
Well, of course, the answer is no.
To be honest, they don’t seem that bad if you ask me.
The only reason why I’m not watching any new anime is that I already have plenty of anime to watch, with many of them made up of anime continuing from the previous season.
Yes, I admit it’s unfortunate that I don’t get to watch new anime considering that’s how I discover new manga and light novels to read.
But alas, I can’t watch them all lest I don’t have time and energy to do anything else.
If you’re not sure what anime you need to watch this season, you can take a look at my list of what anime you should watch.
And if you’re looking for a full lineup, you can take a look at them right here.
With that said, here are the anime I’m currently watching this season.
Ao no Exorcist – Yuki no Hate-hen
Imagine when your biological father is Satan. But rather than joining his rank to wreck the world, you prefer to be on the other side, kicking his butt.
That’s the premise behind Ao no Exorcist where we have Rin and Yukio Okumura who are humans but have Satan’s blood running within them.
Rather than choosing to wreck the world along with their fellow demon siblings, they decide to become an exorcist and exorcist the demon instead.
This season begins with Yukio realizing that he seems to have the Satan flame like his older brother, Rin.
They may only be twin brothers. But Yukio isn’t the same as Rin where he doesn’t have Satan flame until recently.
Instead of being honest with him about it, he decided to do something unthinkable to Rin and everybody else.
Judging from the previous arc, I won’t be surprised that this arc will have multiple seasons as well.
So, you can bet that you will see this anime again in my future anime must-watch list.
Blue Lock
A training facility dedicated to training the best strikers in Japan. And that’s Blue Lock for you.
Like any anime of a similar nature, the competition to remain in Blue Lock is always vicious.
The only way for you to remain in Blue Lock is none other than to adapt and grow as fast as you can while beating the other players.
Remain stagnant and you can guarantee that you’ll be the next person to get kicked out of the facility.
Some of you may find sports anime to feel like a drag to watch when you’re not a sports fan.
But funnily enough, I find Blue Lock interesting despite not being a soccer fan.
Yes, I still prefer Ao Ashi over Blue Lock since Ao Ashi paints a realistic portrayal of what it takes to become a professional soccer player.
But Blue Lock isn’t that bad if you ask me.
Dandadan
Yes, Dandadan is the only new anime I’m currently watching this season. And it’s also the anime that I’m most looking forward to every week.
Who would have imagined that a hot mess like this anime could be intriguing to watch?
Does it have something to do with us getting to see the mash-up between the sci-fi and supernatural elements in one place?
Well, it could be.
But I do know that the anime certainly doesn’t disappoint if you’re like me who already read the manga before the anime comes out.
Sure, the anime can feel like a hot mess to watch because of how fast-paced some of the scenes are.
But if you’re looking for a unique experience, there’s no doubt this anime will give you just that.
And if you’re curious about the manga, you can read my thoughts about it right here.
Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun
Hold on, is the Hanako here that urban legend Hanako?
Well, yes it is.
But unlike the urban legend, this version of Hanako turns out to be a little boy who haunts the last stall of the toilet in the old building.
What’s more, it’s a comedy anime, not a horror anime.
While that can be a relief if you’re not into spooky stuff, I do recommend that you watch Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun anime for better context, though.
It’s much easier to understand the character relationship and make sense of the plot in Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun if you’re familiar with the story in Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun.
And if you’re curious about the Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun manga, you can take a look at my post about the manga right here.
Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri
Imagine when you’re the crème de la crème in the detective academy only to learn that you can no longer become a detective when you’re being accused of murder.
That’s the dilemma Ron faces when he can no longer do the detective work but still has the itch to sleuth.
However, things start to change for the better for him when he helps the police officer, Ishiki Totomaru, solve murder cases behind the scenes.
It even leads him to uncover the mystery behind the murder that he was accused of and the person who wants his life ruined.
On the surface, Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri isn’t that much different from the Kindaichi Case File where the story is mainly about Ron solving cases.
So, you may think it’s fine to jump straight into watching the current season without having to watch the previous one.
Even with that, I still recommend that you watch the anime from the beginning for a better understanding of the main plot.
And if you prefer to read the manga instead, you can read my post about the manga here.
Natsume Yuujinchou S7
Imagine when you’re someone who can see youkai and strong enough to fight one. And you also possess a very old notebook left behind by your late grandmother.
This notebook isn’t your typical old notebook either. It’s a notebook that binds dozens of spirits, good and evil.
He who owns this notebook controls the spirit world, or so they say.
Rather than keeping the notebook, you decide to give back the name to which it belongs.
But this wolf-like spirit in the form of an overweight cat wants to get a hold of the notebook when you die.
And this cat knows about your grandmother when she was still alive.
Well, that sums up what Natsume Yuujinchou is all about.
When you think about a supernatural anime like this one, you may think it must be a spooky anime to watch.
But nope, supernatural anime like this one is far from being spooky.
Instead, the story tends to be a lot more heartwarming rather than trying to scare the hell out of you.
If you want something light to watch, then you certainly can’t go wrong with this anime.
But I still recommend you watch the anime from the beginning for better understanding.
Rurouni Kenshin (2023)
The once-feared samurai who is now refuses to kill anyone even the bad guys. He even carries Sakabato, a reverse-edged sword, as proof of his resolve.
But the assassination of Toshimichi Okubo and the dire situation that befalls Kyoto put him in a bind.
Will he have to revert to being the samurai who killed people viciously to stop the ploy?
Just to let you know what I describe here is the premise for the second season, not the overall premise.
The overall premise of the story is mainly about Kenshin, a wandering samurai who now lives in Tokyo at the moment, solving whatever conflicts he stumbles upon.
And yes, without shedding blood, of course.
If you’re into historical anime, I highly recommend that you watch this anime.
And don’t bother with watching the old version of the anime since the final arc in the anime is nothing like the one in the manga.
What’s more, it has tons of filler episodes too which can feel like a drag to watch.
What fall 2024 anime you’re watching right now?
As always, let me know which fall 2024 anime you’re watching in the comments. And yes, even the ones that aren’t on the list.
I’m curious to know which anime you’re watching this season.
P.S. None of the anime caught your fancy? If you enjoy reading light novels, particularly in the thriller and suspense genre, then have a look at the books that I write on my Payhip store.
