I’m surprised that I have so many anime to watch this fall. I usually have a long list of anime to watch during spring and summer and less anime to watch during fall and winter. But somehow, my must-watch list for summer is rather short by a normal standard. If my must-watch list for summer is already long enough for you, wait till you see what I’m watching this fall.

While there are a lot of new anime will be airing this fall, I realize that majority of the anime that I’m recommending are also the continuation of the anime from the previous season. So yes, you may need to watch the previous season before you can continue watching the current episode.

Luckily, most anime that continue in this season usually have roughly around 13-25 episodes. So I think it’s a reasonable number of episodes to catch up. Why I’m saying this? Well, that’s because I’ve watched an anime where the previous season was like 70++ episodes (that’s Ace of Diamond, in case you’re wondering). If you have the time to catch up with the previous season, then you won’t be that far off to catch up with the latest episode of that said anime.

As usual, you don’t have to watch every single thing I’m recommending here. Just watch whatever anime that you think will be interesting. Knowing me, I’m the kind of person who watches all sort of genre under the blue sky, as long as it has a good storyline.

By the way, the anime that I’ve listed down here are in the alphabetical order. The order has nothing to do with the anime being highly recommended.

Now, let’s see what we have here this fall.

Dance with Devils

Judging from the promotional artwork, I think you may have guessed it already that this anime screams reverse harem from the get-going. Well, I won’t lie about that because it really is a reverse harem anime. I’m not into reverse harem anime, but there are a few exceptions. And this anime happens to be one of them. What’s more, it’s an original anime.

Here’s the synopsis for this anime:

Ritsuka Tachibana is a female second-year high school student who attends Shiko Academy in Shiko Town. She enjoyed her school life while living with her mother Maria. But one day, that balance fell into ruin when she discovers several of her attractive, male classmates are demons.

As far as the storyline is concerned, the storyline seems to be good so far. But the problem with this anime is that there will be a singing session in the middle of the story and it’s in EVERY single episode. This is the part that I cringe the most in this anime. If you have watched any Hindustani movies or High School Musical, you get the idea.

Other than that, the main character Rem looks like Takumi from my novel, Twisted Destiny. That’s just a coincidence though. This is another reason why I’m looking forward to seeing this anime, even though it has this Hindustani movie concept.

Even my niece agreed that Rem looks like Takumi. She felt like she has seen a guy who looked similar, only to find out that the guy happens to be Takumi.

Diabolik Lovers More, Blood

Okay, I know, it’s another reverse harem anime. I’m watching this anime because I have watched the previous season before. If you’ve been wanting to watch this anime but worried about the anime being way too long for you to watch, don’t worry about that. This anime is only around 12 minutes on average. With just 13 episodes, you can finish it in no time.

Here’s the synopsis of this anime if you have no idea what this anime is all about:

Yui Komori’s father moves abroad, so he sends her live in a new town with the six Sakamaki brothers. When she arrives at their mansion, she discovers that they’re vampires. They abuse her psychologically and physically, often feeding off her. While she optimistically accepts her situation, she unravels mysteries both of their past and her own.

From the synopsis, it sounds disturbing, but it’s not like what you’ve imagined. For me, it looks like the way they’re feeding off her is like they’re giving her hickey. It doesn’t even look like how a typical vampire would suck the blood out of its victim.

The way they suck the blood is still the same in the second season. But this time, it’s by different vampire family. Yui was kidnapped by another vampire family and the blood sucking still looks the same.

Despite that, it does have a good storyline. It’s just that I don’t expect this anime deserves a second season. From what I heard, the second season was based on the fanwork.

Go, fanwork!

Haikyuu!! S2

I’m pretty sure that you’ve known this already that I have a penchant for sports anime and manga. So, it’s not surprising here that this anime will be in the list.

Here’s what this anime is all about:

Shoyo Hinata began playing volleyball after seeing the “Small Giant” who played the sports whne he was in the elementary school. He suffers a crushing defeat in his first and last tournament in the middle school at the hands of his rival, Tobio Kageyama. Hinata joins Karasuno High School’s volleyball team, vowing revenge against Kageyama. However, Kageyama is also on Karasuno’s team.

The former rivals form a legendary combo with Hinata’s mobility and Kageyama’s precision ball-handling. Together, they vow to meet Karasuno’s fated rival school in the nationals.

As usual, I’m happy that there’s a second season for this anime. If you haven’t watched this anime, then you should give this anime a try, even if you’re not a volleyball fan or sports fan in general.

High School Star Musical

What makes me want to watch this anime is because this anime reminds me a lot of Shounen Hollywood. Instead of anime about being an idol, this anime is about getting into the show business. So far there are no female characters in this anime, so I assume that it’s another reverse harem anime. Sorry for recommending so many reverse harem anime in one post.

Here’s what this anime is all about:

Yuuta Hoshiya enters Ayana Academy, a school focusing on show business activities, specifically music. The academy has a group of three students with the highest grades in the musical department, and they’re knownas the Kao Kai.

The shortcut to entering the musical department is to enter the Star Frame class, which is directly taught by the members. Unfortunately, due to their own problems, students Toru, Kaito, Shou, Shuu and Yuuta are all struggling to even remain candidates for the musical department. By a stroke of luck however, the five are spotted by Kao Kai member Otori and they pique his interest.

As far as the storyline is concerned, the anime does have a good storyline. But what annoys me the most it has the same concept like Dance with Devils, where there’ll be a singing session in between. It drives me crazy, but I guess I just have to accept it. This is the anime that has a similar concept like High School Musical. So it should have been expected from the beginning.

This anime is perfect for those who loves Shonen Hollywood and also who can bear with singing in between the anime.

K – Return of Kings

Perhaps this is the one and only anime that I don’t remember what it’s all about, even if I’ve watched the previous season in the past. And it doesn’t help at all that I didn’t even watch the movie, K: Missing Kings when it was premiered here in the local cinema.

Despite that, I’m still watching this anime. It takes a while for me to recall the storyline, but the anime seems so good so far.

Here’s the synopsis as a refresher for me and anyone who’s thinking about watching it:

In modern Japan, where history has strangely overlapped with reality, seven “Kings” with great superpower existed. Along with their clansman to whom they shared their own power with, the kings fomred clans. Order bound by blue, red flames that cause chaos, irregularities that shine in white, and reforms branched off into green.

With “Jungle” once again jumping back into action, the fates of the various Kings are brought together.

I can only say that you have to watch the previous season and the movie before you jump into this season because all of them are tied together. That’s all I can say for now.

Kagewani

I’m not really into anime that features mysterious monsters as the main storyline, but this anime isn’t that bad after all. Not to mention, it’s another short anime to watch (less than 10 minutes) which seems okay for me to stick around.

Here’s what this anime is all about:

 The “new form of panic suspense animation” begins when mysterious monsters suddenly appear in the present day and attack humans. The scientist Sasuke Banba pursues the truth with the keyword “Kagewani” (literally, shadow crocodile).

This anime reminds me of Jurassic Park for some odd reason. But what makes this anime stands out isn’t so much to do with the storyline, but rather its unique animation style. Thank goodness the anime isn’t like Ninja Slayer.

Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo R Second Season

I’m watching this anime not only because I’ve watched the previous season, but also a huge fan of the manga. I’ve read the manga since I was in the high school. So, it makes sense for me to watch the anime version as well.

Here’s what the anime is all about:

Hajime Kindaichi, a junior that barely made it past tenth grade has a knack for solving murder mysteries with support from Miyuki, his childhood friend and love-interest who encourages him when all seems lost, and Detective Kenmochi.

The story’s mystery cases will vary in length from one episode to five-episodes-arcs. In particular, there will be episodes that feature the elaborate criminal tricks of Yoichi Takatou, “the puppeteer of Hell” who manipulates other criminals for his schemes.

Based on what I’ve seen in the previous season, there are some episodes where the storyline itself is slightly different than the manga itself. I have no qualm with that. My only complaint is that the character designs aren’t that stellar, particularly Akechi.

For the obvious reason, Akechi in the manga looks much better and ikemen too. I highly recommend the manga, but the anime isn’t that bad too. That is if you don’t mind the not-so-good-looking Akechi for the anime version.

One-Punch Man

Just like everyone else, I also got myself sucked with the hype for this anime. I’m not into gag anime that much, but the idea of having a superhero theme combined with gag seems like a refreshing idea to me. Even my niece also recommending this anime because she had read the manga.

Here’s the synopsis for this anime:

The story revolves around the titular super hero who has trained so hard that his hair has fallen out, and who can overcome any enemy with one punch. However, because he is so strong, he has become bored and frustrated with winning all his battles so easily.

I love the fact that you can easily understand what this anime is all about by just watching the first episode. The only thing I don’t like is that the main character is…bald. I guess having a bald character goes well with the gag theme. It’s a funny anime, but I need time to get myself used with the bald main character.

Osomatsu-san

The reason why I give this anime a try despite not a fan of gag anime is because of the cast for this anime. So yes, perhaps this is one of the anime that has all well-known seiyuu in one anime.

Apart from the amazing cast for this anime, this anime is actually a popular anime back in the Showa era. Since they’re planning to create the new version of this anime, I bet this anime might be worth watching. Well, that’s what I thought.

Here’s what this anime is all about:

The “high tension comedy” story centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu-san, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old.

While I watch this anime because of the cast, I’m amazed that this anime is fun to watch. It kinda reminds me of Doraemon but with the less kiddish flair. The sextuplets’ name seems confusing because they just sound the same, but I’ll do my best to get used to their name. I only recognize Osomatsu since he’s the eldest.

Owari no Seraph 2nd Season

For the obvious reason, I’m watching this anime because I’ve watched the previous season before. This doesn’t need much explanation why this anime is in the list.

For those of you who haven’t watched this anime, here’s what this anime is all about:

After an unknown virus wiped out all adults on earth, vampires appeared and ruled over the surviving children, treating then like livestock. Yuichiro Hyakuya survived along with other orphans by giving their blood to vampires, until Yuichiro escaped four years ago.

Now he’s a member of the Moon Demon Company, a unit in the Japanese army dedicated to hunting down the vampires he blames for the death of his family.

I didn’t read the manga (I’m planning to read it later, actually) so I can’t tell if the anime follows the manga. But all I can say is the second season looks promising, just like the first season. If you’re into supernatural action anime, then this anime is what I highly recommend you to watch.

Owarimonogatari

I’m watching this anime because I’ve watched Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Monogatari series, Hanamonogatari, and Tsukimonogatari. I know, that’s a lot.

What’s the anime is all about? It’s just a mystery and supernatural anime with a little mixture of comedy along the way.

This is the one and only anime that I have a mixed feeling to recommend simply because it’s not for everyone. What makes this anime unique isn’t just the storyline and its emphasis in using formal Japanese in the dialogue, but also its animation.

With texts scattered everywhere, you need to have the fast eyes to read both the translated texts and the translated dialogues at the same time. So, it can drive you crazy if you’re not used to it. Not to mention, its abstract background and setting makes you wonder what sort of anime you’re watching.

Before you jump into Owarimonogatari, I suggest you give Bakemonogatari a try first. If it’s up to your taste, then feel free to proceed with the next installment until Owarimonogatari.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteriru

Wow, that’s a mouthful title to say. Putting that aside, this is also another anime that I watch because of the hype. But luckily, it’s the kind of anime that I love to watch so I don’t seem to mind much about the hype.

Here’s what this anime is all about:

The story revolves around Shoutarou Tatewaki and Sakurako Kujou. Shoutarou is a normal high school student with a serious demeanor. Sakurako is an extraordinary beautiful woman in her mid-20s from a rich family who loves “beautiful bones.” The two live in the city of Ashikawa in Hokkaido, and they get involved in various incidents regarding bones.

Initially, I thought that Sakurako has a weird obsession with bones but thank goodness it’s a part of her job to collect bones, analyze it and construct the bones. Think of it like the kind of person who digs the dinosaur bones, analyze it and construct it so then people know how the dinosaurs look like.

The anime so far doesn’t seem to have a plot twist yet, but I bet it will have in the future. This anime somehow reminds me of Hyouka but with murders as the focal point.

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider

Since I’m also a sucker for mystery anime, it’s no surprise that this anime is also in the list. On top of that, the storyline seems captivating too.

Souhei Saikawa is a member of Saikawa Research Lab. He goes on a vacation held by the lab and Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentor, joins the group on their vacation despite not being a part of the lab. There, the two end up finding a corpse. The two work together to solve mysteries of what becomes a serial murder case.

When I told my niece about this anime, she was asking me what this anime was all about. Too bad that I couldn’t even summarize what this anime was all about because the first episode wasn’t really to the point until the second episode.

All I can say is that the anime seems slow so don’t expect that you get the idea what this anime is all about by just watching the first episode. However, things start to get interesting starting the second episode onwards.

If you can tolerate slow pace anime without much action, then this anime surely is perfect for you.
