Just like the last season, my Winter 2021 anime list isn’t that long either. But unlike the last season, most of the Winter 2021 anime that I’m watching are mainly a continuation from the previous season.

Does it mean that there aren’t that many new anime that are worth watching this season?

If you’ve been reading my blog long enough, I’m sure that you can guess that the answer is no.

Just like in any season, there will always be tons of new interesting anime to watch. It’s just that we have more sequels coming out than the new anime.

My Winter 2021 anime watch list

As always, I tend to use my anime watch list as a source for me to discover my new read. You can also find out which manga and light novel that I plan to add in the future in this post too.

Of course, you’re not going to see me talking about any of the manga and light novels in the list anytime soon. But at the very least, you can expect me to talk about any of them eventually.

With that said, here’s the list of anime that I’m currently watching this season.

Bungou Stray Dogs Wan!

Want to see the Bungou Stray Dogs characters in chibi form? Then you’ll get to see them in this anime.

Unlike the main story, Bungou Stray Dogs Wan! is a comedy anime, with the story tends to focus on their day-to-day activities instead. And the episode is short too, which each of them is around ten minutes or so.

Yes, Bungou Stray Dogs Wan! is the complete opposite of the main story where in the main story, you always see that these characters being pushed to the corner by their enemy.

Should you give this anime a try if you don’t know anything about the main story? Well, I will say yes since Bungou Stray Dogs Wan! doesn’t tie back to the main story that much. But I still recommend you to watch Bungou Stray Dogs first if you want to understand the episodes in Bungou Stray Dogs Wan! better.

Dr. STONE S2

How can I not watch this anime when this anime happened to be one of my favorite anime a few seasons back?

Heck, I even bought the manga in print because of how much I enjoyed watching this anime.

If you’re like me who enjoys a story that blends facts and fiction, then you will certainly enjoy watching Dr. STONE. But as always, I still recommend you to watch the anime from the beginning if you want to understand the story in the second season better.

Wondering what Dr. STONE is all about? You can read about it right here. And don’t forget to have a look at the side story as well since the side story is just as good as the main one.

Hortensia Saga

To be honest, I hesitated to watch this anime beyond the first episode after watching it for the first time. It’s not that the story was bad or anything. It’s just that I find Marius to be pretty useless in the battle for the most part.

I guess maybe it’s because I was expecting her to be something similar to Velvet Crowe from Tales of Berseria.

Yes, I know that I shouldn’t compare her to Velvet. And I shouldn’t let my dislike towards Marius prevent me from watching the anime either.

The good news is my perception of the anime changed in the third episode. That was when I realize that this anime wasn’t that bad. And I no longer disliked Marius as much because of what she did during their battle with the undead.

Well, it’s not that I suddenly become her fan because of her action in the third episode. It’s just that the story starts to become more interesting starting from the third episode onwards.

Yes, it takes time for a story like the one in Hortensia Saga to develop. But it’s still worthwhile to watch.

I can’t say if the anime version is doing its justice or not since I never played the game before. But for someone like me who knows nothing about the game, I do find that the story to be interesting. That is as long as you’re patient enough to wait for the story to develop.

Kai Byoui Ramune

For some reason, this anime somehow reminded me of Kyoukai no Rinne. Perhaps it must have something to do with Ramune is dealing with the unseen things. And the fact that he has a grandmother who is aging in reverse.

The only thing that is different about Ramune is that he doesn’t live in poverty. And he doesn’t seem to take his job seriously whenever a patient comes to see him.

Despite its similarity vibe to Kyoukai no Rinne, Kai Byoui no Ramune tends to focus more on imparting the life lessons rather than the comedy aspect.

If you enjoy watching Kyoukai no Rinne, then you may find that Kai Byoui Ramune seems to fall short. But it’s still an enjoyable anime to watch if comedy isn’t what you’re looking for.

Kemono Jihen

An agency filled with kids who have a special ability known as Kemono. That is the premise behind Kemono Jihen.

Yes, the premise does sound similar to Bungou Stray Dogs, with the exception that these kids resemble a lot more like the creatures from the Japanese folklore. And they don’t have a fancy name like the characters in Bungou Stray Dogs.

But what makes Kemono Jihen different from Bungou Stray Dogs is that the main character, Kabane, has a goal which is to find his parents. And he can do that if he works together with Inugami and the other kids in the agency.

As much as I don’t fancy the middle school age characters, I do find that the anime is interesting.

I’m not sure if the story will become just as intense as the one in Bungou Stray Dogs. But I won’t be surprised at all if it does, considering that there will be more people coming after Kabane because of the stone he has.

If you enjoy watching Bungou Stray Dogs, then you may enjoy watching this anime.

Majutsushi Orphen Hagure Tabi S2

To be honest, I never thought that this anime will get a second season considering that the story in the anime version is just meh.

But hey, I guess that people do love the story even though the story for the anime version is a bit different than the light novel version.

If you love fantasy anime with magic and sorcery, then you may enjoy watching this anime. But as always, it’s still best for you to start with watching the first season first even if you already read the light novel.

Sure, the basic premise of the anime is still the same as the one in the light novel. But that only makes up a small percentage, with the rest of story is completely different from the original source.

Regardless of whether you already read the light novel or not, I still encourage you to watch the anime from the beginning. After all, the story in the second season continues from where the story in the first season left.

World Trigger S2

I’m not sure if I ever mentioned this somewhere on my blog. When I was in the middle of writing the first book from the Trigger Locked series, The Mind Control Assassins, I read World Trigger manga for the combat strategy inspiration.

As much as I enjoy seeing the characters fighting outside invaders, I also enjoy seeing the Rank War arc. Call me weird, but I enjoy seeing how much effort they put into in terms of their skills and strategy just to get themselves ready for the Rank War.

At first, I don’t really enjoy this arc that much since the Rank War arc makes up the majority of the story in World Trigger. But for some reason, the Rank War arc starts to grow on me when I started reading the manga.

The second season picks up from where the first season ended. While the anime does have a brief recap of what’s happening in the first season, I still recommend you to watch the anime from the beginning.

Yes, I know the first season was long. But if you prefer to catch up faster, then I highly recommend you to read the manga instead. At least you can rest assured that the scenes in the manga are more or less the same as the one in the anime.

Well, except for this one arc where it was only for the anime version. Don’t fret so much about not watching this arc since this arc has nothing to do with the main story anyway.

I can’t help but chuckle whenever I see Yotaro and Raijinmaru in the anime. If you already read the latest chapter of World Trigger, I bet you know why.

Yakusoku no Neverland S2

Here’s my funny story about Yakusoku no Neverland. I always wanted to read the manga ever since I saw the first season of the anime.

Lo and behold, I got my wish came true when MANGA Plus made the first 13 chapters of the manga accessible. Sure, the thirteen chapters only cover until the part where Norman was chosen to be the next person to be shipped from the farm.

But since the anime already covered the part where half of them managed to escape from the hellhole, I was pretty content about it.

That was until I decided to read the last few chapters towards the end.

In other words, I already knew how the story would end. But I have no idea about the story that happened in between.

The good news is the second season does fill the hole the in-between story that I miss, which is a good thing.

I still have the ambition to buy this manga in print since I kinda enjoy the premise. But if you’re new to the series, I highly recommend you to watch from the beginning.

This kind of story will only make more sense to you if you watch the first episode onward.
