When you see the title Magu-chan: God of Destruction, you probably think that the manga must be similar to Parasyte.
Not going to lie here that I do see a slight parallel between Magu-chan: God of Destruction and Parasyte.
For one, it’s a story about a strange creature who tries to wreak havoc on humanity.
And he’s not the only one who has such power. The rest of his peers also have similar power. It’s just that Magu Menueku happens to be the strongest of all.
It’s because of this reason people worship him hundreds of years ago.
Yeah sure, those people are hoping for the destruction of the world itself. So, it’s not surprising why they were siding with a supreme being like Magu Menueku.
This is where Magu-chan: God of Destruction differs from Parasyte – the vibe that it presents throughout the story.
I’ll tell you what kind of vibe you’ll get from the manga in a moment. Suffice to say that it’s nothing gory like the one you’ve seen in Parasyte.
Besides, the manga is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump anyway. If it’s a gory manga, then it would be serialized in Jump Plus instead.
What Magu-chan: God of Destruction is all about
Here’s the book description that I got from MANGA Plus.
The God of Destruction Magu Menueku has been summoned by the Chaos Cult. Humanity’s last hope is the honorable Holy Knights! The battle to save mankind…took place hundreds of years ago… But now a girl out in the country named Ruru releases the legendary god of destruction who had been trapped in a magical jewel! Will the natto-eating, destruction beam-blasting Magu-chan fill the world with complete chaos? This heart-warming, destructive comedy series is ready to explode onto the scene!
What got me to read the manga
I’m just like everyone else when it comes to reading this manga for the first time – I read it because it was right there on MANGA Plus. And it was a brand new series on top of that too.
If it’s good, then I will continue to read it until the manga ends, prematurely or not.
What if the manga isn’t that good? Well, I’m just going to drop it after the second chapter at most.
There is quite a few manga on MANGA Plus that I don’t bother to read beyond the second chapter.
So, the same rule applies when I came across this manga for the first time.
Fortunately, the manga is interesting to read. Otherwise, I won’t bother to talk about it on my blog.
What makes Magu-chan: God of Destruction worth reading
If you don’t read the manga description, you probably think that the story for the manga must be on the serious side.
Something similar to Parasyte, perhaps?
Well, you’re not wrong to think that way. For one, Magu-chan’s ambition is about dominating the world once again after breaking free from the seal.
So, it’s not surprising that the story will be about Magu-chan is out for blood. And somebody must stop him before the chaos befell humanity.
But what you get instead is the warm and fuzzy feeling pretty much in every chapter. There’s not even single blood on the street.
Of course, that’s not the only thing you’ll get when you read the manga. You’re still bound to see wacky stuff in between considering that how much blunder that Magu-chan committed as he tries to show off his power to Ruru and everyone around him.
Think that Magu-chan the only one who commits the most blunder? You’re wrong to think that way.
Even other supreme beings like Naputaku and Uneras also commit the same blunder as him since they’re just as clueless as Magu-chan when it comes to understanding humans.
Well, at least Uneras fares much better since she already sided with humans for a long time.
With three of them, expect to see all sorts of crazy antiques that they cause to Ruru and everyone around them in a hilarious way.
Even better? You’ll never get bored seeing them causing blunders that lead to troubles in every chapter.
This is what I find fascinating about this manga. It sure does know when to tickle your funny bone and when it will make you feel wholesome.
Believe me, I’m not the only one who feels that way about the manga. Pretty much almost everyone who reads this manga also feels the same way.
What I didn’t expect when I read the manga
I admit that I’m not the kind of person who enjoys reading this type of manga considering that my beat tends to be mystery, thriller, and suspense.
But hey, even someone like me finds this manga interesting despite it’s not the kind of manga I usually read.
Curious about the type of manga and light novels that I tend to favor the most? You can read about it right here.
Another thing that I don’t expect is that how the story starts to get serious the moment another supreme being known as Muscar comes into the picture.
As expected, the start of the arc where Muscar appears for the first time is just as comical as the others’ first time appearance.
But for some reason, I feel that Muscar’s appearance somehow indicates that the story will take another serious turn at some point.
Will the story starts to get serious from now onwards while putting the warm and fuzzy feeling on the back burner?
It’s hard to say considering that the story only starts to take on a serious turn in the recent chapter.
But seeing the previous arcs so far, I won’t be surprised at all that the story will revert to what it’s known for sooner or later.
Who should read this manga
If you’re looking for a light read and enjoy reading a comedy manga, then there’s no doubt that you’ll enjoy reading Magu-chan: God of Destruction as well.
Keep in mind that the manga does have a serious moment from time to time. But for the most part, the story tends to make you feel wholesome with a few comedic scenes in between.
Where to buy Magu-chan: God of Destruction manga
As always, you can read the manga for free on MANGA Plus. Since it’s a Weekly Shonen Jump manga, you can only read the first and the latest three chapters there.
You can’t read the chapters in between on the website and also on the app.
The good news about the manga is that the chapters aren’t related to one another. You can still enjoy reading the manga even if you can’t read the chapters in between.
Of course, it’ll be great if you can read all chapters, not just the first and the last three chapters. But if you only want to test the water, then it doesn’t hurt to read the manga on MANGA Plus.
