Occultic Nine Book Cover

For the longest time, I don’t even know that Occultic Nine has a game. I only found out about it recently when I was doing the prep work for this blog post.

Well, I should have known that Occultic Nine will eventually have a game considering that Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head, and Chaos;Child! is originally a game.

Not sure what kind of game is that since I never played the game before. And the game is only available in Japanese.

Even if the game does available in English, I doubt that I would want to play the game since I’m not into playing visual novels.

Maybe it’s just me. But I have a feeling that I can’t sit still playing this type of game. I can only sit still when I’m playing intense games.

If you love playing visual novels and you can understand Japanese, the game is still available for sale at Play-Asia.

Want to buy the game? You can buy the game right here:

Just to let you know that the game is also available for Xbox One. It’s too bad that it was no longer available, though.

For those who are spelling-conscious, the spelling for Occultic;Nine throughout the blog post will be Occultic Nine.

Yes, I know. I should follow the original spelling when I write about the light novel. But I have to rewrite the name so then this post will get more love from Google.

And at the same time, I want to stop Grammarly from tagging the name from the misspelling. It’s tiresome to dismiss the misspelling despite I can do it with a click of a button.

What Occultic Nine is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from Bookwalker.

From the mind behind Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head, Robotics;Notes, and Chaos;Child! Now a hit anime, too!
–Q: Do you believe in ghosts? A: Of course not!
Yuta Gamon, a young boy who lives in Kichijoji, runs an Occult-related blog called “”Kirikiri Basara””. He spends his days dreaming of making a fortune off his affiliate links. Suddenly, Yuta’s blog brings together the fate of nine strangers, as what starts off as a tiny feeling that something’s wrong develops into a case that goes beyond imagination. Black magic, the afterlife, psychics, fortune-telling, other dimensions, prophecies, hypnosis, urban legends…
The world is filled with flim-flam!

What got me to read the light novel

I won’t deny that the reason that got me to read the light novel has a lot to do with me already watching the anime before. And not to mention, the fact that it was the same person behind Steins;Gate.

I already watched Steins;Gate anime before and love it. So, I already know what to expect when Occultic Nine anime came out.

Even if the creator behind Occultic Nine is someone else, I will still give the light novel a try since I also enjoy reading manga and light novels in the occult supernatural genre.

Curious about the kind of manga, light novels, and even nonfiction books that I tend to recommend on my blog?

What makes Occultic Nine light novel worth reading

If you’re like me who already watched the anime before, you probably feel that the story in the anime seems rushed.

Sure, the story in the anime does cover everything without leaving any mysteries unanswered.

But some parts of the story can somehow feel like it barely scratched the surface.

That’s how I felt after watching the anime.

Unlike the anime, the story in the light novel fleshes out these characters’ lives and how they’re connected.

How these characters are connected with one another isn’t that apparent in the anime. It was only when you understand the story from a different character’s perspective that you finally see how everything ties together.

While the first book doesn’t seem to dive deeper into the occult terminology, the second book onwards goes deeper into the occult terminology and the scientific research behind the occurrence which I find fascinating.

To be honest, I can’t say for sure if the facts presented in the story are accurate or not. But it sure does sound plausible to me, though.

The only thing that I can say is true is the psychometry ability which is something that I was already familiar with through Psychometrer Eiji.

For some people, Occultic Nine may feel like a heavy read because of its scientific explanation. But it can still be a fascinating read since it sure does get me thinking about the things that are explained in the story.

If you love the idea of reading something that involves critical thinking, then you may enjoy reading Occultic Nine.

What I didn’t expect when I read the light novel

The only thing that baffled me the most is that the first book ended when all hell starts to break loose.

Yes, I get that it’s to create anticipation for the next book. Or it could be because the book ended up becoming way too long if they don’t split the book into three.

But it sure does feel strange to end the first book when things are about to happen.

Even Ascendance of a Bookworm wraps up the story in the first book pretty nicely while still leaving a hint that there’ll be more to come in the next book.

Can’t say for sure why they’re doing it. But my money is on the fact that the book will be too long if they don’t split the book into three.

And yes, even if the first book ends in an unusual way.

Who should be reading this light novel

If you’re into the occult supernatural genre with the scientific explanation in between, then you’ll certainly enjoy reading this light novel.

Keep in mind that the beginning of the story can feel like a drag since what you’ll get is more or less the useless banter between Yuta and the people around him.

It was only in the last few chapters where things start to pick up. Even by that time, it’s already closer to the end of volume one.

The juicy part will only start to happen in volume two.
