Hold on, the actual title for Hi, I’m a Witch manga is supposed to be long, right?

How come the title of the post is only Hi, I’m a Witch manga when the actual title is Hi, I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion?

Shouldn’t I use the actual title on the blog post instead of the shorter one?

Yes, I know that I should be using the actual manga title in full rather than shortening it to Hi, I’m a Witch manga.

But I have to shorten it to Hi, I’m a Witch manga for optimization purposes.

Believe it or not, most people don’t use the full title when they’re searching for this manga on Google.

The same goes with The Genius Prince Guide light novel where most people will only write a portion of the title instead of its full title.

Thus, my reason for using a short title for both blog posts. It’s for the sake of optimizing the blog post for the search engines.

Will using the short title make it less recognizable?

Well, maybe.

But if you’re talking about a manga that starts with Hi, I’m a Witch, I think this is the only manga that has a title like that.

Even if it does, it won’t have a witch in the title.

It may have something else instead.

What Hi, I’m a Witch manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from Bookwalker.

“Make me a love potion.”

And with that single sentence, the Good Witch of the Lake’s secret crush on the dashing Sir Harij ends in heartbreak. Still, when he promises to help her gather the ingredients, Rose is thrilled at the chance to gaze upon a man she’d normally never get to interact with. She learns to brace her pounding heart for their usual stilted conversations…but what is she to do when he inexplicably shows up at her doorstep with bread and a jar of apple butter?

What got me to read the manga

If you’ve read my post about the kind of books that I tend to recommend on my blog, you know that I’m not into reading shoujo manga that much.

Yes, I did recommend a handful of them in the past such as Purikyu and Penguin Prince.

But for the most part, I don’t read shoujo manga that often.

So, what got me to read this manga then?

Well, it has a lot to do with the story sounds interesting to me.

And let’s not forget the title too.

It got me interested in the manga because of how intriguing the title is.

What makes Hi, I’m a Witch manga worth reading

Unlike any other genres out there, shoujo manga in general tends to follow a specific formula.

Any story that goes off-tangent from its usual formula will make people dump it in a heartbeat.

It’s because of this reason that makes a shoujo manga less exciting to read since you can guess what will happen in the end.

Well, at least for me.

The only thing that makes shoujo manga entertaining to read is the comedy, particularly the banter between the female main character and the male main character.

In many ways, Hi, I’m a Witch manga isn’t that much different from other shoujo manga out there.

But what makes it an interesting read is that how someone like Rose who lives in isolation starts to change ever since Harij came to see her.

Sure, Harij only came to see her because of the love potion at first.

But after a while, he came to see her out of his genuine concern for her ever since he saw Rose in her baby suit.

That’s when he realized that Rose is a young girl. And she’s somewhat skinny too. Even chicken has more meat compared to her body.

That’s Harij’s words, though, not mine.

Don’t worry. It’s not that you’ll see her bare body in the flesh or anything since this is not a TL manga.

And it’s also the only time where you’ll be seeing Rose in her full glory. You won’t be seeing anything like that anymore after that.

If you’ve been reading shoujo manga for quite some time, I’m sure that you already expect something like this is bound to happen.

But other than that, the story tends to revolve more around their banter with one another which I find hilarious, for the most part.

What I didn’t expect when I read the manga

What I didn’t expect isn’t about the manga specifically.

Rather, it’s more to do with how surprised I am that the light novel is licensed for English release as well.

I’m not sure what got me to assume that only the manga gets an English release.

But I’m glad to know that the light novel version is available in English as well, which I did buy not long after I bought the manga.

I only knew about the light novel when I read the author’s note at the end of the manga.

If only I knew about the light novel sooner.

Knowing my nature, I’m more likely to get the light novel version than the manga version considering that the manga version may not be able to capture every nuance in the light novel.

Oh well, there’s nothing much I can do at this point.

I already bought the manga, anyway. So, I may continue to buy the manga when the next book comes out.

Who should read the manga

If you’re looking for a new shoujo manga to read, then this manga is worth considering.

The only downside is that the next book will only be coming out in mid-2023. And I bet that it’s going to take just as long for the third volume to come out as well.

So, if you’re impatient and want to know how the story will end, I recommend that you read the light novel instead.

The light novel only has two volumes. And it’s already completed, in case you’re wondering.
