Depending on who you talk to, some people can’t seem to fathom the idea of having to quit social media for good.
After all, social media is where they get the news, connect with their friends and family, meet new people, and kill time when they’re bored.
Social media has been a part of their lives for as long as they can remember.
The only reason why people would want to quit social media is because of the online harassment and bullying.
But even with that, many of them are still coming back to social media despite all that.
With that said, is that the reason why I want to quit social media altogether?
While I’m fortunate enough that I didn’t get bullied and harassed online, that’s not the reason why I quit social media.
My reason for quitting social media has more to do with a business decision rather than a personal one.
What got me to be on social media in the first place
When you think of social media circa the Friendster or MySpace era, most people don’t see social media as a way for them to market their products and services.
Okay, that may not be the case for MySpace since many artists use MySpace page to get the word out about them and their music.
But other than that, social media back then was more for connecting with your existing circles and meeting new people, nothing else.
It was only when Facebook and Twitter came to life that people started incorporating social media strategies into their business.
And boy, the result was phenomenal.
Not only that they managed to increase their sales beyond their wildest dream. But they could do all that without spending a dime.
As someone who just started a business with no money to spend on marketing, the thought of having to generate sales without having to spend on marketing was music to my ears.
Believe it or not, what got me to be on social media wasn’t because my friends and family were there.
I couldn’t care less about them being on social media.
What got me to be on social media was because of the premise it can help me to reach more customers for free.
This epiphany moment that makes me want to quit social media for good
Fast forward to more than a decade later, I finally realized that social media isn’t what it seems.
Yes, you can generate sales from social media.
But it can only be possible if you post a lot on social media.
Posting once a week and calling it a day won’t cut it.
You have to post multiple times a day for better results.
Sure, there are tools that can help you with making this process a lot easier. And there’s also another tool that allows you to repost the same social media posts that you made after some time.
Unless you post multiple times a day consistently, you won’t be seeing any significant results at all.
And here’s the kicker for you – having large followers may not guarantee a huge sale.
I can’t say for sure why. But I’m guessing it has a lot to do with people’s behavior when they’re on social media.
While some people use social media to find product recommendations and reviews, many of them don’t.
The sales conversion is so minuscule that it makes you feel like all your hard work was all for naught.
You’re just on the wrong platform!
If you’re someone who uses social media for personal reasons, you will say what you experience seems to be the complete opposite of what I experience.
Thus, you deduce that I must be on the wrong platform.
If you’re on a dying platform, then you certainly won’t get any traction no matter how hard you try.
Rather than be on a platform like Facebook or Twitter and now X, I should be on Instagram and TikTok instead.
That’s where many people are today.
Just talk to any influencers and they will say they’re either on Instagram or TikTok.
Some of them may also be on X. But they’re certainly not on Facebook, for sure.
Well, you’re right. If anything, I should be on Instagram and TikTok if I want social media to rake the dough for me.
But sorry, I won’t be on any of those platforms and whatever new platforms will come into our existence in the future anymore.
I’ve seen myself enough to know where all these platforms are heading. And they don’t look good to me if you ask me.
What will be my plan going forward?
Now that I quit social media for good, does it mean it’ll be the last time you’ll ever hear from me?
Of course, the answer is no.
My blog will still be around, and so will this website.
The only difference is that I no longer post about my latest blog post on social media anymore.
That’s what I use social media for. I only use it to notify my latest blog post and other special promotions that you don’t want to miss.
If you’d like to continue receiving a notification about my latest blog post, then the best way to go about it is to join my email list.
You’ll receive my latest blog post sent to your inbox every time there’s a new post on my blog.
The signup form isn’t available on my blog as I write this.
But suffice it for me to say that email will be the only way for you to hear from me going forward.
Will I be coming back to social media again someday?
Sad to say, I don’t see myself coming back to social media ever again.
Like I said before, it takes way too much of my time for social media to make it work for me.
Don’t worry about not having any way of contacting me now that I’m no longer on social media.
You can always leave me a comment or send me an email here if you have any questions.
Keep in mind that I have no issues with deleting your comments, blocking you, and not responding to your emails if you’re being rude to me.
Bratty people don’t deserve any of my time and attention, and so does social media.
P.S. Some of you may think that I’m a blogger who likes to talk about anime and manga. But the truth is I’m an author with a few books under my belt.
If you’re someone who loves to read light novels, particularly in the thriller and suspense genre, then you may enjoy reading my books.
Think that my books are up to your alley? If that’s you, then you can take a look at them right here on my Payhip store:
Interested in buying any of the books? Use the coupon code SEKINAMAYUBLOG during checkout to get 25% off on your purchase.
My books are also available in print and on other retailers such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and Apple Books.
But you can only get a discount if you buy the books on my Payhip store, though. I don’t offer discounts on any of these retailers.
