How many books that I plan to read during the Reading Challenge for 2024 now that 2024 is here?

Will I be planning to read the same number of books as last year? Or will I be reading a lot more than I usually do this year?

What about the reading challenge for last year then?

Did I manage to meet my goal for last year’s Reading Challenge?

For those who aren’t familiar with the reading challenge, it’s simply a reading challenge that you can take part in on Goodreads.

All you need to do is specify the number of books you want to read this year and update your page with the books that you read throughout the year.

Sad to say, there won’t be any prize awaiting you if you complete the challenge.

But it sure is a good way to develop a reading habit if reading more books is one of your goals this year.

Just so you know anyone can take part in this challenge. But you need to have a Goodreads account which you can sign up for free.

The result of my last year’s reading challenge

As you’re already aware, I also took part in the Reading Challenge for 2023 which you can read more about it right here.

So, how do I fare in the challenge?

Did I manage to meet my goal of reading 25 books during that year?

The good news is I did.

Even better?

I read more books than what I set for that year, with the books I read during that year were 29 in total.

And that doesn’t include the books that aren’t available on Goodreads.

If I include those books, it will be 35 books in total.

That doesn’t seem so bad considering how busy I was during that year.

My Reading Challenge for 2024

So, how many books do I aim to read in 2024 then? Will it be 35 books since I already proved that I can read that many despite my busy schedule?

Or will I be aiming to read 40 books this year now since the number seems doable to me?

Believe it or not, I still aim to read 25 books this year.

Why the number of books to read is the same, you wonder?

Shouldn’t I increase the number a bit more considering that I read more than the number of books I set out to read last year?

Yes, you’re right. I should set this year’s challenge to be higher than last year.

But believe it or not, even reading 25 books for this year feels like a tall order to me.

The only reason that got me to meet last year’s goal has a lot to do with most of the books that I read being manga, with many of them being the Dr. STONE manga.

Of course, I also read nonfiction books and light novels in between.

But many of them are manga, with a handful of them being ongoing manga such as Spy x Family and Yowamushi Pedal: Spare Bike manga.

Now that the Dr. STONE manga has already ended, I’m thinking about getting started with reading Sousou no Frieren manga.

I’m curious if the manga can also give me the same vibe as the anime.

Even with that, I’m still not sure if I should give the manga a try.

Yes, I admit that I enjoy watching the anime. I even have a dedicated post about the anime considering how different it is from your usual fantasy anime.

My decision to read the manga is still up in the air as I write this.

But you’re bound to see the post about the manga on this blog for sure if I decide to take the manga for a spin.

Not all books in my Reading Challenge for 2024 will make it to the blog

As you can already expect, not all books in my Reading Challenge for 2024 will make it to the blog.

Just like any other book, there will always be a handful of them that are bound to be a total dud.

So, don’t feel bad if you don’t see me recommending your favorite books on my blog despite seeing the books on my Goodreads reading list.

They’re just not for me. And I won’t say that you have terrible taste in books if you happen to love the books that I don’t like.

Another reason for that is that many of them are books that I already featured on my blog.

That seems to be the case for the ongoing series.

I will still be talking about those books, of course if the time calls for it.

But you won’t see me talking about the book volume-by-volume on my blog, though.

Now that I think about it, that doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Rather than writing about it as a review, it will be more like a commentary of that said story in that volume.

Will I be heading in that direction is something that I’m not sure of. But I’m keeping this option open if I’m not sure what to fill in the editorial calendar for this blog.

Will I be able to complete the challenge?

As much as it pains me to admit it, this is the question that I tend to ponder whenever I take part in the reading challenge.

Will I be able to complete the challenge successfully like the year that comes before it too?

To be honest, it’s hard to say considering all the things that I plan to do this year.

But with me managing to establish the reading habit throughout 2023, I’m sure that I will meet the goal of reading 25 books for this year just fine.
