God Eater 2

Some of you must be wondering when you see the blog post about God Eater 2 manga – where’s the first one? Am I missing something?

Well, the truth is you’re not. It seems that God Eater 2 is the only game from the series that received a manga adaptation.

As for the first one, we only get the spin-off series in the form of manga and light novels. I never read God Eater light novels before. And I have yet to come across the translation for the light novel anywhere else.

So, I can’t comment on the light novel. But I will say that the spin-off manga is indeed hilarious.

God Eater 2 also has a spin-off manga and light novels too. And it’s just as interesting as the main story, in case you’re wondering.

It’s too bad that I can’t get my hands on the spin-off manga since it was no longer available anywhere else, even at Kinokuniya.

Heck, even I have a hard time getting my hands on God Eater 2 manga considering that the manga itself is more or less in the same situation as its spin-off counterpart.

Let’s just hope that I will be able to get my hands on that spin-off manga someday.

What God Eater 2 manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I retrieved from God Eater 2 manga Wiki Fandom page.

The story revolves around the Blood Unit and its recruit, Hiro Kamui, as they try to stop the Black Plague from spreading.

In case you’re wondering, the total volume of the manga is 10, with the final volume coming out on December 28, 2019.

What got me to read the manga

Well, I’m a big fan of the game itself. Though I have to admit that I struggled a lot when I played God Eater Resurrection. So, it’s not surprising at all that I will get my hand on the manga version as well, that is if I was able to play the game until the end.

What’s the point of buying the manga if I didn’t even finish the game, right?

In case you’re wondering, I did finish the game. And it felt amazing too because the ending for the Rage Burst part was just amazing.

That’s all I can say. You should play the game too if you have the chance.

What makes God Eater 2 manga worth reading

I’ll be the first to admit that the story in God Eater 2 manga is slightly different from the one in the game.

Well, it makes sense for the story for the manga version to be different. It’s just impossible to put all scenes in the game into a manga format.

So, I get why some of you resist the idea of reading the manga adaptation of a video game because it’s not a faithful adaptation to the original source.

Despite the changes, I find that some parts of the changes fit well with the flow of the story. And they’re much better than the original story too.

Take the scene where Dr. Leah was rescued by the Blood Unit for example. In the game, they rescued her after they received a rescue signal from her. But in the manga version, Hiro and Gil found her and Fran inside a truck that got attacked by the God Arc Soldier.

To be honest, I find this part of the story in the manga is more impactful than the one in the game. It also makes more sense too, considering that Fran also wants to escape from Friar after all the awful things that happened in Friar. I find it much better that both of them escaped together rather than coming to the Far East Branch in a separate scene.

Just like in any manga adaptation, you’re bound to see some of the scenes in the game to have more details in it. And some of the scenes can be pretty hilarious too.

If you’re looking for another way to indulge the story in a different format and you don’t mind the changes made to the story, then you will find the manga an interesting read.

What I didn’t expect when I read the manga

Remember the scene in the game where Romeo was fighting Marduk all by himself while the red rain was pouring heavily?

Unlike the scene in the game, the scene in the manga is more elaborated in the sense that you’ll get to see Marduk’s horn is piercing through Romeo’s body.

Yes, the same scene in the game. But it’s more gruesome in the manga version.

Same goes for their fight with the same Marduk that Romeo was up against. I know that many of you would excel in the same mission in the game, especially when you have a strong loadout.

But in the manga version, you’ll get to see how much they struggle during the fight with Marduk, to the point that all of them are almost at the brink of their death.

If there’s a cutscene right after their fight with Marduk, I’m sure that it will be just like the one in the manga version.

Who should read this manga

If you love God Eater, then there’s no doubt that you should give the manga a try. While some of the scenes are a bit different than the one in the game, it’s still an interesting read considering that you’ll get to see many wacky scenes that don’t exist in the game.

Keep in mind that you don’t need to play the game if you want to give this manga a try. The manga does explain the basic things about what God Eater is all about and the basic mechanic of the God Arc. It’s just that you’ll be missing out on some of the scenes that only exist in the game.
