Oshi No Ko Manga Book Cover

I remember when I stumbled upon Oshi No Ko manga for the first time on MANGA Plus. It was such a massive read since you’d get around 5-6 chapters in a week at that time.

Yes, it’s great that you get to read 5-6 chapters in one go as opposed to having to wait until next week for another chapter.

But it can feel rather overwhelming when you have other manga to read on that day.

Well, it makes sense why they had to release so many chapters in a week back then. At that time, they were trying to get the English release to catch up with the Japanese release.

Thus, multiple chapter releases in a week.

Fortunately, the English release managed to catch up with the Japanese release months later.

So, the update for the manga will be the usual one chapter in a week.

But here’s the thing that I got to witness when I read Oshi No Ko manga on MANGA Plus.

For one, many of them already knew that it was Aka Akasaka’s new manga. And they already read the manga elsewhere way before it came out on MANGA Plus.

Despite already read the manga somewhere else, they came back to read the manga on MANGA Plus instead.

Their reason? That’s how they can support the mangaka directly.

Just to let you know that the mangaka will get paid from the advertising revenue generated through MANGA Plus. The more ad revenue the manga generates, the more money the mangaka will receive.

Seeing how many of them read the manga on MANGA Plus goes to show that you don’t need to spend money to support the mangaka.

It can be as simple as reading the manga on MANGA Plus.

Yes, I get that not all manga that you want to read is available on MANGA Plus. But it’s a good start.

That’s how you can make the whole ecosystem sustainable in the long run.

What Oshi No Ko manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from MANGA Plus.

“In the world of showbiz, lies are weapons.” Goro works as an OB-GYN in the countryside, a life far removed from the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, has begun her climb to stardom. The two meet in the “worst possible way,” setting the gears of fate in motion! The amazing Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari team up to depict the world of showbiz from a completely new perspective in this shocking series!

What got me to read the manga

The reason that got me to read the manga is like most people – it was available to read on MANGA Plus.

Will I still read it if I happen to stumble upon this manga anywhere else?

Well, I will, of course, considering that it’s the kind of story that is up to my alley.

If you’re wondering about the kind of story that I tend to gravitate towards the most, you can read this post right here.

What makes Oshi No Ko manga worth reading

Not going to lie that there are plenty of manga and light novels out there that have reincarnation as another person as a main theme.

So, this manga isn’t that much different in that sense.

But what makes this manga fascinating is that you get reincarnated as your favorite idol’s child.

And you’re not the only person who got reincarnated as a child of your favorite idol. The other person somehow reincarnated as the idol’s child too since she was also a fan of hers in her past life.

When you think of the premise itself, you may think that this manga is all about fun and game, similar to Aka Akasaka’s past manga, Kaguya-sama: Love is War.

Unfortunately, Oshi No Ko manga is nothing like Kaguya-sama: Love is War.

Rather than having an upbeat story, we have a dark story instead. And it’s even grimier when the story is shedding the light on the inner work of the Japanese entertainment industry.

Even with such a blend, the story is a fascinating read.

Of course, some of you who are already familiar with the inner work of the entertainment industry may not find anything presented in the manga to be a bombshell.

But it’s still a fascinating read considering that we’re seeing things from a different culture.

A murder mystery combines with the dark side of the Japanese entertainment industry.

What an amusing combination, don’t you think?

What I didn’t expect when I read the manga

Not going to lie that the story tends to have a darker mood for the most part. But it’s not like the story is always dark all the time.

You still get some funny moments in between too.

Yes, the kind of funny vibes that you tend to see in Kaguya-sama: Love is War. You get to see that in this manga as well.

Of course, don’t pin your hope that there will be funny moments in every chapter, though.

As much as I enjoy watching Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime, I don’t expect Oshi No Ko to have a lot of funny vibes even if it’s by the same mangaka.

Who should read the manga?

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys reading murder mystery manga and light novels, then you may enjoy reading this manga.

Yes, the whole premise is a little different than the usual murder mystery since the premise tends to revolve around the entertainment industry.

But I find that it’s a perfect mix considering that the entertainment industry isn’t as glitzy as it seems.

Of course, you should give this manga a try too if you enjoy Aka Akasaka’s past work.

It’s just that you need to keep in mind that it’s nothing like his past work, though.

If you don’t mind reading something with a dark theme, then you should give this manga a try.
