Sakamoto Days Manga English

I can guess what you’re thinking when you see the main character for Sakamoto Days manga. For some reason, he looks like Anzai sensei from Slam Dunk.

Wait, a guy like Anzai sensei is a former assassin? And not to mention, a legendary one too?

This manga must be a gag manga or something when you have a guy like him being a legendary assassin, right?

Well, bad news for you if you think that Sakamoto Days manga is a gag manga.

Sure, there are some funny moments in the manga. But it’s certainly not a gag manga no matter how you slice it.

If you never believe in the idea of never judging a book by its cover, then you ought to believe it now since Sakamoto Days manga isn’t the kind of manga you think it is.

What Sakamoto Days manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from MANGA Plus.

Taro Sakamoto was the ultimate assassin, feared by villains and admired by hitmen. But one day…he fell in love! Retirement, marriage, fatherhood and then… Sakamoto gained weight! The chubby guy who runs the neighborhood?store is actually a former legendary hitman! Can he protect his family from danger? Get ready to experience a new kind of action comedy series!

What got me to read the manga

I won’t deny that I was no different from everyone else when I came across the manga on MANGA Plus – I read it because it was there on MANGA PLUS.

It doesn’t hurt to give it a try, anyway, considering that it’s a new manga. And let’s not forget that it was free to read too.

Well, if you’ve been reading it from the beginning, of course.

If you don’t, then you will need to upgrade to MANGA Plus’ Standard plan to read the chapters in between.

While that seems to be the case pretty much most of the manga I’ve read on MANGA Plus, what makes Sakamoto Days manga make it to my recommendation list has a lot to do with the main character being a hitman.

For those who don’t know, I have a penchant for the manga or light novels that has the main character being in a special force, a spy, or the military.

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise here that I would be drawn to this type of manga.

And yes, even if it’s a comedy manga like this.

Wondering what sort of manga and light novels that I tend to recommend on my blog? You can find out about it right here.

What makes Sakamoto Days manga worth reading

Not going to lie it’s interesting to see a manga where the character used to be an assassin but becomes chubby after he retired from the scene.

Sure, he’s unique in his own way. But Sakamoto isn’t the only unique character that you’ll come across in this manga.

We also have Shin, an assassin who has psychic power. And we also have Lu who is the daughter of a Triad Family but good at Drunken Fist.

While the people who become Sakamoto’s allies seem to have quirky behavior, you can say the same for the enemies as well, with all of them having a unique fighting style.

Take Kanaguri, the now ex-Order member who happens to be a movie director.

What makes Kanaguri stands out more compared to the enemies that Sakamoto faced in the past, you ask?

Well, he’s the only opponent who uses a clapperboard to slash people’s heads.

Yes, who would have thought that a harmless tool like a clapperboard can be used as a weapon, right? That’s what Kanaguri used to kill his enemies.

This is what makes Sakamoto Days manga an interesting read. Not only do the characters have quirky behavior. But the way they fight is rather unique too.

That makes the battle scenes in the manga on a whole another level. You’re always in for a treat since the battle scenes are nothing like you’ve ever seen before.

If you’re looking for an action manga that has unique battle scenes, this manga sure does have it.

I can’t say for sure if the anime does the battle scenes a justice here since I have yet to watch the anime as I write this.

But all I can say is it’s worth considering reading the manga as well if you enjoy watching the anime.

What I didn’t expect when I read the manga

To be honest, I never thought the manga would be this violent considering that it’s a Shonen Jump manga.

I won’t be surprised at all if it’s for the serialization in Jump Plus. But it’s amazing to see that a manga like this gets serialized in Shonen Jump.

Just to be clear that I didn’t find the violent scenes in the manga to be a turn-off for me.

It’s just that I always assume any manga that gets serialized in Shonen Jump has mild violence at most.

I guess any manga that contains nudity such as Jigokuraku tends to get serialized on Jump Plus.

But a manga like Sakamoto Days can still get serialized in Shonen Jump as long as it doesn’t have nudity in any shape and form.

Who should read this manga

If you’re looking for an action manga that has unique battle styles, then this manga has it for you. The only caveat is that the manga does have quite a few violent scenes, though.

Well, what do you expect when the story revolved around a former assassin? Dead bodies are a staple in this type of manga.

Where to buy Sakamoto Days manga

The good news is you can read the manga online legally on MANGA Plus.

But you will need to upgrade to their Standard plan if you want to read the chapters in between, though.

What if you happen to come across the manga after the manga officially ends then?

Well, you will need to upgrade to their Deluxe plan to read the complete manga.
