Slam Dunk Manga

For those of you who already read Slam Dunk manga, you’re probably are wondering why the manga cover that I have here is different than the one that you had.

Are we getting a sequel to Slam Dunk manga or something?

Well, unfortunately, the answer is no. The cover that you see here is the brand new cover for the collector’s edition of the Japanese version of the manga.

Yes, I know that it’s too bad that the Japanese version of the manga is the only one that is getting a cover upgrade. But we’ll never know that we may get one someday.

And who knows maybe we can get the digital edition of the manga along the way too.

Sorry for the not-so-good quality manga cover. I try to find the cover with a better resolution. But for some reason, the image just wouldn’t get uploaded on Canva. So, I end up having to use this one instead.

What Slam Dunk manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from Amazon.

Hanamichi Sakuragi’s got no game with girls–none at all! It doesn’t help that he’s known for throwing down at a moment’s notice and always coming out on top. A hopeless bruiser, he’s been rejected by 50 girls in a row! All that changes when he meets the girl of his dreams, Haruko, and she’s actually not afraid of him! When she introduces him to the game of basketball, his life is changed forever…

What got me to read the manga

Here’s the funny part about this manga: I already saw the manga for such a long time since I was in elementary school. But I only began to read the manga in high school. And it was only after I watched the anime!

It was thanks to the anime that got me interested in reading the manga.

My cousin even tried to convince me to give the manga a try for such a long time already. But for some reason, I just flat out refused to read. Sure, the manga was hilarious. But I wasn’t interested in reading a story that has something to do with sports since I wasn’t a sports fan.

Another reason why I decided to read the manga version is that the local licensor of the manga began to sell the manga again years after the manga ended.

Well, they were doing it just to clear their old stocks and make ways for other new manga that would be coming out at that time.

So, I took the chance and bought the manga every time I came across the manga at the newsstands.

What makes Slam Dunk manga worth reading

How can I say no to the manga that is so hilarious to the point that I can’t stop laughing until I put down the book?

That’s just impossible for me.

Apart from the manga being hilarious, I also like the fact that the manga also goes deeper into explaining the rules and the technical terms as simple as possible.

Heck, even some of the explanations are hilarious too when you pair it with an example.

Just be careful not to read the manga in public because you’re going to laugh so loud.

If you want something that can give you a good laugh while teaching you something about life and basketball rules and technical terms, then you can’t go wrong with this manga.

What I didn’t expect when I read the manga

Who would have thought that reading sports manga and watching sports anime can be this fun?

Well, I wouldn’t even know how fun sports manga and anime will be if it’s not because of Slam Dunk.

It was thanks to Slam Dunk that I have a keen interest in watching other sports anime and read sports manga such as Yowamushi Pedal, Ace of Diamond, Eyeshield 21, Kuroko no Basket, and Haikyuu!

And it was also thanks to Slam Dunk that I like basketball even more.

Just to let you know that I already like basketball way before I read Slam Dunk. But it was thanks to Slam Dunk that now I have a full grasp of the rules and the technical terms.

Who should read the manga

If you’re like me who enjoys reading sports manga and love basketball, then there’s no doubt that you’ll enjoy reading Slam Dunk manga.

But if you expect the manga to be something like Kuroko no Basket, then you may not enjoy the manga that much. Unlike Kuroko no Basket, none of the characters have any hidden superpower ability of that sort.

Even if it does look like they do, it’s only due to their experience and the time that they put to hone their skills. Nothing too fancy here.

Not going to lie that some of the scenes aren’t that realistic such as Sakuragi’s high speed blocking move when he’s trying to stop Akagi from doing a dunk.

But for the most part, the story itself tends to be more on the realistic side rather than something that seems over the top. So, you’re not going to see anything that looks like they’re coming out of the battle scenes in the shonen manga.
