Sorcerous Stabber Orphen Anime Blog Banner

Some of you may already know about the Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime because of the 1998 version of the anime.

But for the rest of us, it was when the anime came out during the Winter 2020 season.

With so many old and popular anime like Digimon Adventure and Urusei Yatsura getting a facelift, it’s not unusual to see Sorcerous Stabber Orphen getting an anime facelift as well.

Believe it or not, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen is a popular anime in the past too.

While it’s good to see an old anime like Sorcerous Stabber Orphen making a comeback, it got most of us thinking about why we’re getting a new Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime now.

Sure, it’s a popular anime, of course. And it sure does feel nostalgic to some people too when they see the same anime finally making a comeback to the present day.

But that can’t be the only reason why the anime is getting a brand-new anime release, right?

Well, you’re right about that.

There’s more to it than just reviving an old, popular series. And it’s certainly not for the sake of the nostalgic feeling too.

To be honest, I can’t say for sure if they have a specific reason for reviving this series. But these could be the possible reason why we’re getting the brand-new Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime.

And it’s not just for one season. The anime even gets a third season as I write this.

To increase the sales of the light novel

It’s not unusual for publishers to use anime to boost manga and light novel sales in Japan.

But I doubt that’s the case for Sorcerous Stabber Orphen light novel, though.

Yes, the release of an anime can indeed help with boosting the sale of the light novel in Japan.

But the thing is the reprint edition of the light novel came out in 2011 during the release of the sequel.

So, I doubt that the new anime release can help with boosting the sale when the reprint version came out a long time ago.

If it’s not because of that, then what’s the reason behind the new anime release then?

I’m guessing that it may have something to do with boosting the sale of the light novel in English.

Yes, the English version of the light novel came out in 2018. But the anime only came out in early 2020. That was more than a year after the English version of the light novel came out.

Just to let you know that the first volume of the light novel was published on August 2018.

So, my money is on boosting the sale of the light novel in English rather than the Japanese version.

To promote the new manga spin-off

Remember the scene in the anime where Orphen came across a female officer who was on the lookout for Volkan and Dortin?

Well, apparently there’s a spin-off manga for that. And it’s a brand new spin-off manga too.

If there’s a specific reason why this series gets a new anime release, then it has to be this one.

Curious about the spin-off manga? You can take a look at the manga right here on Amazon.

I can’t say for sure if the story in the spin-off manga has anything to do with the main story or not.

But I’m guessing that the story in the spin-off manga won’t be as dark as the one in the main story.

That’s what I think, though. Don’t quote me on that.

To bring new fans to the series

This sure is a no-brainer.

The series has been around for such a long time. But it doesn’t mean that everyone knows about the series.

And the best way for people to know about the series is to release a brand new anime, of course. I doubt that people would want to watch the 1998 version of the anime even if they’ve heard about the series.

I certainly don’t for sure.

And if the light novel does well, J-Novel Club may consider licensing the sequel too.

Well, they’ve already licensed the spin-off manga, anyway. So, I’m sure that they will license the sequel sooner or later.

Note about Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime

If you’re not happy with how the story is progressing, you may think that the 1998 version of the anime is better.

Well, I can’t say for sure how better it is since I’ve never watched the 1998 version of the anime before.

But it doesn’t seem that the 1998 version of the anime isn’t any better either based on the Wikia page for the 1998 version of the anime.

Sad to say, some parts of the story in the 1998 version of the anime also don’t follow the story in the light novel.

Yes, the ending for the first part of the story does follow the original ending in the light novel. But the middle part of the story is different, though.

Rather than sticking to the original story, they make a different story for the anime version instead.

They have no intention of making a faithful adaptation of the light novel from the beginning at all.

Yes, please read the light novel

I get that not many of you will jump right away to read the light novel after you watch the anime.

But if you find the premise interesting, then I encourage you to give the light novel a try. In case you’re wondering, it’s also one of the light novels I highly recommend too.

If you’re curious about the light novel, you can take a look at my post about the light novel right here.

Nope, that’s not happening anymore

Funnily enough, I still watched the second season of the anime despite knowing that the story in the second season will be nothing like the one in the light novel.

Not sure what went into my head when I decided to watch the second season of the anime.

Perhaps it must have something to do with me not having that many anime to watch during that season.

But thankfully, I’m wise enough not to watch the third season of the anime when it came out.

Yes, I admit that the reason why I’m not going to watch the third season of the anime has a lot to do with me watching so many anime at this time around.

But for the most part, it’s more to do with me knowing well enough that the story in the third season isn’t going to be the same as the one in the light novel.

There’s no point for me in watching the anime when it’s not a faithful adaptation of the light novel.

And it’s terrible too.

At the very least, the animation quality isn’t as jarring as the one in Fullmetal Panic! Invisible Victory.

That anime will always remain in my mind for the wrong reason.
