To be honest, I’m somewhat skeptical to share with people what Summer 2019 anime I’m currently watching right now.
It’s fine to talk about anime on this blog back then. But since I’m shifting my focus to talk about manga, light novels and other interesting books that I come across on my blog, I find that talking about anime on a book blog seems out of place to me.
Despite my own skepticism, I decided to continue with what I always do back then. And that is to talk about what anime I’m currently watching.
But this time, instead of just sharing the anime that I’m currently watching right now, I will also include which manga will become my next read.
I tend to discover my next manga and light novels to read through anime most of the time. And I’m sure that some of us do too.
If you’re like me who tend to discover your next best read, then this post is for you.
Summer 2019 anime that intrigue me
Starting this season, I decided to reduce the time that I spend on watching anime so then I can spend more time catching up on all the books that I always want to read.
Because of that, my Summer 2019 anime list is shorter compared to the last few seasons.
Besides, I feel like I have become a lot pickier than before when it comes to anime. That makes my anime list much shorter than it used to be.
Combine that with the anime that I’m currently watching for the last few seasons, it’s still a lot to some people. But hey, it’s hard to say no to the all of the amazing on-going anime.
With that said, what is the anime that made it to my list? I’m sure that you can tell some of them based on my blog graphic.
But if you don’t feel like playing the guessing game, here’s a list of Summer 2019 anime that I’m currently watching right now that I’m so loving it.
Dr. Stone
I decided to give Dr. Stone anime a try ever since I came across the manga through MANGA Plus app not too long ago.
To be honest, I didn’t have much expectation when I watched the anime for the first time. But after watching the first few episodes, I was so hooked to it.
My reason for liking Dr. Stone is simple: the historical and the scientific facts included in the story.
I’m a sucker for anime, manga and light novels that blend facts and fiction together. It’s because of that reason that I enjoy watching Dr. Stone. It’s one of the anime that I’m so looking forward to
In fact, I even flirt with the idea of wanting to buy the manga in print!
If you’re like me who loves watching anime that combines facts and fiction together, then you will certainly enjoy watching Dr. Stone.
Interested in getting the manga?
You can buy the manga right here:

Seeing how much I enjoy Dr. Stone, it’s obvious that Dr. Stone will be included in my next reading list. You can expect me to talk about it somewhere in the future.
Enen no Shoubotai
We were always told not to play with fire. But the lesson not to play with fire takes on a different level in Enen no Shoubotai.
Instead of having something that causes a fire in the first place, we have a human who suddenly turns into fire and starts to burn everything it touches.
The human who suddenly turns into a fire is what they call infernal in Enen no Shoboutai. And what causes these people to turn into a giant flame is still a mystery.
Does the premise pique your interest? For me, it really does.
I can’t say for sure how close is the anime adaptation to the manga. But if you’re thinking of binge-reading Enen no Shoubotai, you can get the manga right here:
Enen no Shoubotai Vol. 1 manga on Amazon
Will I include Enen no Shoubotai in my next reading list? Well, that will depend on how the anime ends.
If the anime ends in such a confusing manner like Soul Eater, I will certainly get the manga in a heartbeat.
High School Star Musical S3
Yes, I enjoy watching music-centric anime. It’s because of this reason that I’m still watching High School Star Musical until the third season.
I wouldn’t recommend anyone to watch this anime unless you enjoy watching idol anime or any musical-theme anime.
But if you do want to give this anime a try, then I highly recommend you to watch from the beginning instead of jumping straight to the third season right away.
This anime only has 12-13 episodes in one season. So, it shouldn’t be that long for you to catch up with the latest episode.
But if you don’t feel like watching the anime, you can choose to read the manga instead.
It’s unfortunate that the manga isn’t licensed for the western release. But the good news is you can get the manga right here at Gempak Starz website. You can buy the manga right here:
Star-Myu: Musical Star Academy manga
To be honest, I can’t say for sure how far the manga version covers. But that should be good enough for you to have a rough idea on what the anime is all about.
As much as I enjoy watching this anime, I don’t see myself getting this manga. So, High School Musical manga won’t be in my reading list, at least for now.
Kanata no Astra
I love watching sci-fi anime. But it’s not the kind sci-fi anime like Kanata no Astra.
So, what makes me decide to give Kanata no Astra a try despite my lack of interest in this type of sci-fi anime?
Well, some people who watched the anime commented that they enjoy reading the manga. Since so many people were saying positive things about the anime, I decided to give this anime a try even though it wasn’t the kind of anime I enjoyed watching.
Yes, I also listen to what other people are saying. But at the end of the day, I will still be the one who will make the call to watch the anime or not.
With that said, what’s my verdict about this anime?
Well, I find it hard to believe that I love
I love mystery anime. So, it’s no surprise here why I enjoy Kanata no Astra even though I’m not into space travel theme that much.
If you’re looking for a sci-fi anime that also has a mystery element in it, then this anime is perfect for you.
Kanata no Astra is also available as manga as well. You can get the manga right here if you’re interested:
Kanata no Astra Vol. 1 on Amazon
Just like Enen no Shoubotai, I may consider buying the manga if the ending for the anime doesn’t do justice for the story.
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files
I was skeptical to give this anime a try at first when I found out that the anime was a part of the Fate series.
Well, I didn’t follow most of the Fate series. The only Fate series that I follow closely is Fate/Stay Night.
I was worried that I would find the anime difficult to watch because I didn’t understand Fate series that much.
After watching the first episode, I realize that I don’t need to have a full understanding of what Fate universe is all about. Everything that I know in Fate/Stay Night is good enough to make me understand the story in Lord El-Melloi II Case Files.
While Fate series tends to focus more on the battle between the masters of the heroic legends, Lord El-Melloi II Case Files is geared more to solving mysteries related to magic and any incidents leading to Holy Grail war.
Watching Lord El-Melloi II Case Files somehow reminds me of the detective anime like Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbou. It’s because of its similar vibe to Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo that gets me interested in watching Lord El-Melloi II Case Files.
If you’re into mystery anime and you do know a thing or two about Fate series, then I highly recommend you to give this anime a try.
Want to get started with the Fate series? While I do get my head start in the series through Fate/Stay Night, fans of the series will recommend you to start with Fate/Zero instead.
You can buy Fate/Zero manga right here:
Buy Fate/Zero Vol.1 manga on Amazon
Will I be adding Fate series in my next reading list? Probably, but I’ll be more likely to add it in my reading list if Lord El-Melloi II Case Files is licensed in English.
What can I say? I love reading mystery manga even though it’s about solving mystery cases in the Fate universe.
Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga is another anime that I didn’t expect that I would end up watching.
What drives me to give this anime a try isn’t so much to do with the revenge plot. Rather, I’m more attracted to its story that is based on
Well, I always have a penchant for anime, manga and light novels that blend facts and fiction together. So, it’s no wonder here that I’m willing to give Vinland Saga a try even though the revenge plot isn’t that much different from the revenge plot in 91 Days.
Will I give Vinland Saga manga a try after watching the anime? Well, that will depend on how the anime ends. I will certainly get the manga if the anime doesn’t end properly, though.
If you’re interested in getting the manga, you can get it right here:
Vinland Saga is also available for sale on Bookwalker as well. If you can’t get the manga on Amazon, you can also buy the manga at

My thought about Summer 2019 anime in general
Just like the last few seasons, there will always be many new, great anime to watch even among the slush piles. Anyone who ever tells you that there aren’t many good anime to watch isn’t digging deep enough.
Why am I saying that? Well, it’s easy. This list already proves that there are
With so many great new anime to watch, we also discover tons of new manga and light novels to read too.
It doesn’t matter whether there are
