I admit that Summer Time Rendering is different than any other mystery manga I’ve talked so far.
That is if you compare it with other mystery manga such as Psychometrer Eiji and Kindaichi Case Files.
Technically, it’s still a mystery manga since it leads Shinpei to investigate Ushio’s bizarre death.
If that’s the case, why am I saying that this manga is a lot different than the other two? It’s still a mystery manga, right?
Well, it has a lot to do with the story. While it’s still a mystery manga in the genre sense, it also has a few other elements that make the story interesting. And for some reason, you can’t seem to stop reading the manga too.
What Summer Time Rendering is all about
Here’s the Summer Time Rendering description that I got from MANGA Plus.
Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island. What mysteries await him on this secluded summer island?
What attracts me to this manga in the first place
If you’re familiar with my beat on this blog, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you why I love reading Summer Time Rendering.
Someone died and something sinister is about to happen? Count me in!
And the fact that one mystery will also lead to another also got me glued to the manga.
Didn’t people say that curiosity can kill a cat? That’s how I feel about Summer Time Rendering. It’s hard for me to stop reading the manga when one thing is leading to one another. You just can’t help but want to know what will happen next.
Isn’t that always the case with the mystery anime, manga and light novels? You can’t stop until you the story ends or you reach the latest chapter.
What I didn’t expect when I read the manga
To be honest, I never thought that the story to be complex.
Don’t get me wrong. I love anime, manga and light novels that have a complex storyline.
But sometimes, it’s easy for us to be confused at one point especially when there are so many things going around.
Added with the fact that Shinpei can loop back to the past makes the story messy and harder to understand for some people.
Fortunately, the extra chapters do help with explaining some parts of the story that are unclear and also other details that are needed but can’t fit into the story.
As much as you feel tempted, never ever skip the extra chapters. Not only the extra chapters help with understanding the story better. But it can also help you with understanding the concept that will appear in the future chapters too.
I admit that some extra chapters seem random such as chicken sandwich recipe. But for the most part, the extra chapters contain the information needed to understand the story.
Who should read this manga
If you’re into mystery manga and light novels with supernatural and time travel elements, then you will certainly enjoy reading this manga.
