The Little Book of Bob Book Cover

Some of you may think I must be a Bob fan when you see me talking about The Little Book of Bob book on my blog.

Well, you’re not wrong since any cat person will want to read a book with Bob on it.

But the truth is, I only knew about him recently, four years after his passing.

Yes, I admit I must be living in a cave considering how much of a worldwide sensation Bob is.

Every cat person out there must have known about him considering that he’s also starring in his own movie, not just having tons of books under his belt, literally.

But the funny thing is Bob and I never seem to cross the path for some reason.

Does it mean I don’t know any other cat celebrity out there?

Well, I do know Tama-chan, the calico cat who becomes the station master in Wakayama.

I also know about this local cat celebrity who my sister was a big fan of.

Other than that, I can’t seem to recall any cat celebrity on top of my head right now.

I guess that it’s better late than never, I suppose, even if I only get to know him four years after his passing.

Will I be reading more books about Bob is something that I’m not sure of.

But one thing I know for sure is I will certainly recommend interesting cat manga like Chi’s Sweet Home and Red Cat Ramen for sure.

What The Little Book of Bob is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from Amazon.

From the New York Times bestselling author of A Street Cat Named Bob comes an uplifting book of wisdom and advice from the most street-savvy cat of them all.

In spring of 2007, street busker James Bowen found an injured orange tabby in the hallway of his shelter home in North London. Their friendship changed both of their lives and led to the internationally bestselling book A Street Cat Named Bob.

But fame hasn’t gone to James or Bob’s heads. In Bob, James found a model for friendship, steadfastness, balance, and joy that we can all apply to our own lives. The Little Book of Bob is a heartfelt and wholesome book about how to be kinder to ourselves and kinder to the world around us.

Cats are amazing creatures, as all animal lovers know. Tender and wise, this is a little book with a big heart.

What got me to read the book

I won’t deny what got me to read the book has a lot to do with me being a cat person, not so much about me being a Bob fan.

But even with that, it doesn’t need to be this book per se, right?

So, why does it have to be this cat book over the other considering that we have tons of cat books out there, you ask?

Well, I have to credit BookXcess for that since it was where I stumbled upon the book.

Read a few pages of the sample provided there and it got me interested.

Funnily enough, I didn’t buy the book from BookXcess despite the book being way cheaper than anywhere else.

Instead, I bought the book at Kinokuniya since I wanted to buy the book along with the third and final volume of Mars Red.

The book somehow came as a shock to me, though.

I’ll let you know about it in a moment.

But suffice for me to say the book isn’t what I expected.

What makes The Little Book of Bob worth reading

When you think of life lessons, you probably don’t think you would learn much about life from another human being, let alone a cat.

But amazingly enough, we all should take these lessons from Bob to heart despite how simple they are.

Sure, you can say that there’s nothing new about these lessons since we already know about them.

Rather than seeing this book as a way to learn a new lesson, think of these lessons in the book as a reminder for yourself instead.

One of the profound lessons we should all take heed of is listening to your gut feelings.

In the book, James described a situation where Bob became agitated when they headed to Neal Street to meet his friend.

No matter what he did, Bob refused to come along with him.

Only when he saw the commotion ahead of him did he cancel his plan and go home straight after that.

Thankfully, a few days later his friend told him it wasn’t anything major happening in that area.

But we all know it could be something worse.

The only reason that prevented him from getting caught in such a dangerous situation was that he listened to Bob.

Yes, listening to your gut feelings may seem woo-woo to some people considering that we can’t rationalize what made us feel that way.

But believe me, if something doesn’t feel right, it really is.

If there’s one key takeaway from this book, I will say it has to be this one, hands down.

What I didn’t expect when I read the book

Just like any other book that I bought before, I assume the book to be just as thick as, if not thicker than the Mars Red manga.

But what came as a surprise to me was the book was way smaller than any other nonfiction book I have.

And it was rather short too since it took me a few days to finish reading the book.

It sure looks as if I only bought one book when the parcel arrived on my doorstep.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect a book like this to be thick enough to become a doorstopper.

But I never thought the book would be this small since I thought it would be just as thick as the typical nonfiction books.

Despite the book being short, I love the fact each lesson in the book is on point.

As much as I enjoy reading a long book, it doesn’t hurt for me to read a short book once in a while.

Who should read this book?

It doesn’t matter whether you have known Bob for years or you just found out about him, this book is a must-read if you enjoy reading cat-related books.

Not only does the book serve as a reminder for us to enjoy life to the fullest, but it can also put a smile on your face when you get to see how Bob behaves in his everyday life.

If you have a cat, I’m sure you can relate to some of Bob’s behavior considering that cats tend to have similar behaviors despite having a distinctive personality.

The only caveat with this book is that it’s only a short book.

But if you’re looking for a book that you can finish in one sitting or you don’t have the time to read a long book, then this book is for you.
