Anyway, let’s get back to the topic, shall we?
Why Twisted Destiny has a prequel
To be honest, it’s not necessary for me to write a prequel to the novel itself. Just take a look at my previous novel, The Diary of Modern Cinderella. The novel itself is good enough to stand alone without needing a prequel and even a sequel. Or maybe I’m just not creative enough to expand the plot for The Diary of Modern Cinderella even further.
But for some weird reason, I can expand the storyline for Twisted Destiny even though I do have a difficulty in writing the book at first.
With this in mind, I’ve decided to give the back story about what really happened to Takumi and Hideki in the past. That will also mean that some of the characters in Twisted Destiny will also be making a comeback in the prequel. After all, I did hint in Twisted Destiny that Takumi did meet some of them in the past.
So writing about what was happening in the past will help me to expand Takumi’s relationship with the others in the past in a better way. Think of it like Kuroko no Basket where there’s a brief story about Kuroko and the others when he was in Teiko Middle School.
At the same time, I also feel like giving my readers something for free as a token of gratitude for joining my mailing list. And the prequel to Twisted Destiny seems like a perfect gift to them.
What you don’t know about this prequel
I’m not sure what the other authors do when it comes to writing a prequel to their book. But in my case, I write this prequel first before I even write the main plot! After I’ve completed the main plot, I came back to polish the first draft of the prequel.
Since there were so many changes even in the main plot itself, I also had to do many major changes to the plot for the prequel too. Not only that, I also had to add a few chapters to make the plot more sensible and aligned with the main plot. With the original first draft consisted only 6 chapters including prologue and epilogue, the prequel now has 8 chapters including prologue and epilogue.
I initially intended to make the prequel short, but it ended up becoming longer just to be sure that the prequel relates back to the main plot.
I’m not going to lie here that it was difficult, but I’m glad that the prequel turns out to be better than I thought. With many major changes and some unexpected things happened to Takumi in the past, I feel satisfied with the final draft.
When it comes to the unexpected things, don’t ask me how in the world I can come up with something like that. The only thing I can say is I’m only adding it up just to spice things up and just to make the story more interesting.
Give this prequel a try
If you’ve read The Diary of Modern Cinderella, I understand that Twisted Destiny itself is a lot different in terms of the mood, setting and the plot as a whole. Or maybe because you’re not into a sports theme novel because you don’t even give a hoot about sports itself.
Whatever it is, it’ll be great if you can give this prequel a try. One of the reasons is because it’s available for FREE, but at the same time, it will also give you a glimpse on what to expect for Twisted Destiny. That is if you haven’t read Twisted Destiny yet.
