Judging from the title, it may seem like the Undead Girl Murder Farce manga sounds more like a girl who tries to stage her death but fails.

Well, you’re not wrong considering that we have an undead here.

I mean, how are you supposed to kill an undead then?

They’re being called undead for a reason, right?

There’s never a way to kill one. And they will still survive even if you chop their bodies into multiple parts.

Whether it’s possible to kill an undead is something I’m not sure of.

But the thing about this manga is that the story hasn’t so much to do with an undead girl who is on the hunt and she must die no matter what.

Rather, it has more to do with her hoping that someone is capable enough to kill her someday instead.

What Undead Girl Murder Farce manga is all about

Here’s the book description that I got from Bookwalker.

The end of the 19th century—a vampire’s wife is murdered, and the detective known as the “cage user” is called in to solve the crime. But there’s more to the detective and the curtained birdcage he carries…after all, when solving a case involving a monster, it might just take one to know one!

What got me to read the manga

I have to admit the reason that got me to read the manga is that I already watched the anime before. And I also got the manga for free on Bookwalker when they ran the first in the series free promotion.

Thanks to the anime, I already know what to expect.

But even if I have never watched the anime before, I will still give this manga a try since it’s my kind of story.

Not going to lie I sure am curious about how to kill an undead.

But for the most part, it’s more for the murder cases.

Like I said, it’s my kind of book even if the murder cases revolve around supernatural beings.

What makes Undead Girl Murder Farce worth reading

From the story standpoint, it may seem like the story revolves around Aya wanting Tsugaru to end her life despite being an undead.

While that may seem like the focal point of the story, the story is more like something akin to detective manga instead.

But this time around, we have murder cases that revolve around non-humans. And Aya is the one who gets called to solve these cases.

What do I mean by non-human, you ask?

Well, it can be something like a vampire or any magical creature you can think of who can transform into a human.

And if you think the murder cases in this manga are straightforward ones, you’ll be hard-pressed to find out that they’re not at all.

You will still need to put your thinking hat to make sense of the situation like you would in a detective manga.

And it’s even more so when the cases revolve around supernatural beings.

Another thing to note about the characters in this manga is that while many of them tend to be popular fictional characters such as Sherlock Holmes, it also has a historical figure as well.

And that person is none other than Aleister Crowley.

Okay, Aleister Crowley may not be the kind of historical figure you will look up to unless you’re someone who embodies his teachings.

But hey, it’s interesting to see that we have a character that is based on a real person.

You can guess what kind of character Aleister Crowley is and which side he belongs to considering his occult background.

Is the manga turning into something similar to Bungo Stray Dogs, you ask?

Well, I won’t go as far as saying you’ll get a similar vibe to Bungo Stray Dogs only because we have Aleister Crowley here.

If anything, I should say that this manga resembles more like the Ron Kamonohashi manga instead.

The only difference is that they’re murder cases that revolve around supernatural beings.

What I didn’t expect when I read this manga

As someone who watched the anime first before reading the manga, I assume there won’t be much difference between the anime and the manga.

But nope, the character design for Aya is completely different from the one you see in the anime.

What is it that causes the character design for Aya in the anime to be different from the one in the manga?

Is there any reason behind the change in the character design for Aya?

It turns out there’s no special reason why the character design for Aya is different from the one you see in the manga.

The character design for Aya that you see in the anime is the same as the one on the novel cover.

It’s the manga that changes the way Aya looks.

I can’t say for sure why they have to change the character design for Aya in the manga version.

But I will say that the character design for the anime one seems more on point than the one in the manga.

The gothic look for Aya in the anime version suits her more considering that she’s an undead.

Despite the confusion, I actually like both character designs for Aya.

Either one is fine with me. But if you want something that resembles the undead a lot more, the gothic look one is a better option.

So, it makes sense why the character design for Aya in the anime resembles the one on the novel cover than the one in the manga.

Who should read the manga?

If you’re into reading detective manga like Kindaichi Case Files and Ron Kamonohashi, then you may enjoy reading this manga.

Yes, the manga can feel more like a fantasy manga because of the murder cases revolving around supernatural creatures here.

But the way Aya solves the cases isn’t that much different from how you see Kindaichi and Ron solving murder cases.

And the cases are pretty entertaining too even though they’re murder cases revolving around supernatural creatures.
